Chelsea are on the verge of getting rid of someone brought to the club by Thomas Tuchel who has become surplus to requirements, according to reports.

There have been plenty of changes to the Chelsea squad in each of the past two transfer windows. Todd Boehly’s ownership group have spent heavily on plenty of new players.

As a result, many existing squad members have been fighting for their futures. Even some of those who have arrived in the Boehly era are already at risk.

For example, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang arrived at Chelsea in early September. In the process, he reunited with his former Borussia Dortmund head coach, Tuchel.

However, Chelsea sacked Tuchel just a couple of days later. Consequently, Aubameyang has struggled to make much of an impression under his successor, Graham Potter.

After further investment in the squad in January, the striker ended up being left out of their updated Champions League squad list for the knockout phase.

Aubameyang is still in contention to play in the Premier League, but it is an indication of how he has fallen down the pecking order.

In turn, there have been some rumours in recent days about the former Gabon international leaving. Although the transfer window has closed in England, there are territories in which it remains open.

Specifically, Aubameyang has been targeted in the USA, where he could join MLS side, LAFC.

Reports have suggested a mutual interest in making the move happen. Therefore, it has been down to the two clubs to come to an agreement.

Now, according to Le10 Sport, Chelsea and LAFC have settled on the terms of Aubameyang’s move. The Los Angeles outfit have agreed to take the forward on loan, should the final details be resolved.

Indeed, while there is an agreement between the clubs, there is not yet between Aubameyang and his potential next takers.

Aubameyang exit will relieve Chelsea

Since Aubameyang earns €9million (£7.98m) a year at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea will be relieved to get him off the books for the time being.

His contract with the Premier League club is due to last until the end of next season. In the short term, though, he could well be on his way across the Atlantic.

A change could serve Aubameyang well, since he has only scored once from 11 Premier League appearances this season. His form has deteriorated in comparison to the six months he spent at Barcelona before.

At LAFC, he would be another high-profile recruit after Gareth Bale’s short spell with the club last year. Giorgio Chiellini is one famous member of their remaining squad.

Aubameyang is now 33 years old, so it could be a good time to try out something new overseas. And he is still young enough to potentially return to Europe before he retires, if he manages to revive his fortunes in LA.

His form with Barcelona suggested he still has something in the tank, but just like his final season with Arsenal ahead of his initial Premier League departure, it just hasn’t worked for him at Chelsea.
