Chelsea player ratings vs Blackburn: four 7/10s but Nicolas Jackson still struggles in routine win

There is reason why some fas think he’s the best left-centre back in the team. Spotless return to the team and capped it with a goal.

Chelsea got back on track with a comfortable 2-0 win over Championship side Blackburn Rovers, ensuring progression into the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

The returning Benoit Badiashile opened the scoring after Conor Gallagher and Reece James had threatened earlier on without success.

Badiashile was only playing in his first game under Mauricio Pochettino having missed pre-season and first part of the season through a hamstring injury that ruled him out at the end of last season.

Didn’t have to do for large parts of the game then pulled off a great save in the end.

Ahead of the game manager Pochettino called on the home fans to lift the team following the defeat to Brentford at the weekend. He also pointed to the atmosphere at the ground as one of the things he was determined to change as long as he remained the boss.

But despite the lead, it was Blackburn who continued to impress and played from the back with bravery and admiration even though that would eventually cost them.

Cole Palmer intercepting one of their attempts to play out from the back befoe setting up Raheem Sterling who took a touch before curling home what was the second goal to give his side total control of the game and seal progression to the next round.

Sterling, Gallagher and Palmer all went close to adding to the scoreline but the away side would hold on to what in reality should have been maybe a heavier scoreline.

The best player in the team. Looked dangerous in those first few minutes of the game. You get the feeling that he’s going to be a special player here.

Below is how we rated every Chelsea player out there today including Sanchez who made a brilliant save to keep his clan sheet intact.

First start since that Liverpool game and came close to scoring. Was never shy to try score from a distance. A few heavy touches in between.

Calm and composed with good ability on the ball. Easy to see he’s a good player but the question remains will he get the time to do it at Chelsea.

First start since the Liverpool game and he looked fit and eager to make up for lost time.

A hesitant start to the game but once Chelsea scored he settled and enjoyed his game.

There is never a game where Gallagher doesn’t give it his all- what he lacks though is sometimes just that final ball.

Sterling is the highest earner at this club but sometimes it’s just so hard to understand some of his decision making. Finished brilliantly for the second goal.

He’s come under so much pressure in the last few days. Could do with some goals to boost his confidence. (Photo: Nicolas Jackson)
