Check Out The Influential Women Who Have Their Own Barbie Dolls
If you can see it, you can be it.
That’s why the iconic girl’s doll brand Barbie began highlighting real-life female heroes who inspire girls by breaking boundaries and expanding possibilities for women everywhere with their “Shero” and “Inspiring Women” collection.
And to no surprise here, a lot of the women being honored with their very own one-of-a-kind dolls just happen to be our very own MAKERS. From Katherine Johnson, the NASA mathematician that calculated man’s path to the moon, to Misty Copeland, the first Black principal dancer of the American Ballet Theater, to Abby Wambach, the soccer icon and pay equity advocate— these women are definitely going down in HERstory.
“Embodying the empowerment message the brand stands behind, Barbie is honoring these Sheroes who, like Barbie, have broken boundaries, challenged gender norms and proven girls can be anything they want to be,” writes Mattel on their inspiring collection.
MAKERS is looking back at some of the other incredible Barbie dolls that have been created, those that were inspired by the familiar faces of some of our idols.
Though not all are available for purchase, they are definitely worth admiring.
