Morrisons named the cheapest supermarket for buying your Christmas dinner

We’re all trying to save a few pennies this festive season, whether it’s on presents or puddings.

For the second year running, Morrisons has been named the cheapest supermarket to buy a Christmas dinner for a family of eight.

For a turkey and all the trimmings, including mince pies and a Christmas pud, Morrisons came in at just £23.07 - £2.88 per person.

Lidl came a close second at £24.89 while Asda placed third with a basket full of budget Christmas goodies costing just £25.78.

The survey, conducted by LoveMoney.com, compared the prices of the following tasty treats across nine of the top UK supermarkets: turkey, potatoes, frozen sprouts, parsnips, carrots, stuffing, cranberry sauce, Christmas pudding, Christmas cake, brandy butter and mince pies.

At £60.58, Waitrose had the most expensive shopping list – a sizeable £37.51 more expensive than Morrisons.

Only Waitrose and Ocado’s lists included fresh turkeys making their prices considerably more expensive than cheaper rivals.

Variety, as they say, is the spice of life so if you fancy popping to a few different shops for your Christmas goodies, we’ve worked out you can save even more money!
