The Chase newbie Darragh Ennis admits he's been dealing with trolls since becoming part of the Chaser team this year.

A former contestant and a scientist in his day job, the Irishman recently joined the Bradley Walsh-fronted ITV show alongside the famous five: Mark 'The Beast' Labbett, Anne 'The Governess' Hegerty, Jenny 'The Vixen' Ryan, Shaun 'The Dark Destroyer' Wallace and Paul 'The Sinnerman' Sinha.

While chatting to The Mirror, though, Darragh suggested it's not all been plain sailing with the vocal fanbase, but he's been assisted through the chaos by his new colleague Jenny.

"She had a very hard time at the start, she had a lot, she got a lot of bad social media interactions. And that upset her quite a bit. It's not, it's not nice, very unpleasant, the people trolling you," Darragh explained.

"But she's been very good with me, especially with social media at the start so I don't get swamped. Because it's been a bit of a mad few days."

The Chaser then reflected: "There's a lot of people out there who are very abusive towards contestants if they make mistakes, or if they take the low offer. And I won't countenance that at all.

"I won't listen to that, because it's very unfair. And it's a very stressful, difficult situation for a lot of people.

"And they're putting themselves out there in front of, like, almost 5 million people watch that show every day. And it's very, very easy for the arm chairs sort of Twitter guys to load onto people because they make a mistake, or they do something they think isn't right.

"It is easy to do that," he continued, adding: "If they were that smart, they should apply to be on the show, to be honest."

The Chase airs weekdays on ITV.
