Despite appearances, celebrities don't always get on while working together. We all remember Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall on Sex and the City, Taylor Momsen and Blake Lively on Gossip Girl, and most devastatingly Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alyson Hannigan on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Well, one co-star feud we've always been slightly in the dark about is the one between Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron on the set of Mad Max: Fury Road in 2015. In an interview with The New York Times, the pair have spoken openly about their fall-out, detailing how production challenges made the atmosphere on set tense and difficult.

Co-star Rosie Huntington-Whiteley opened up the discussion saying, "There was a lot of tension, and a lot of different personalities and clashes at times. It was definitely interesting to sit in a truck for four months with Tom and Charlize, who have completely different approaches to their craft."

Theron commented, "In retrospect, I didn’t have enough empathy to really, truly understand what he must have felt like to step into Mel Gibson’s shoes. That is frightening!"

Theron continued, "And I think because of my own fear, we were putting up walls to protect ourselves instead of saying to each other, 'This is scary for you, and it’s scary for me, too. Let’s be nice to each other.' In a weird way, we were functioning like our characters: Everything was about survival.

Hardy responded, "I would agree. I think in hindsight, I was in over my head in many ways. The pressure on both of us was overwhelming at times. What she needed was a better, perhaps more experienced, partner in me. That’s something that can’t be faked. I’d like to think that now that I’m older and uglier, I could rise to that occasion."

This is the first time the pair have spoken about the feud, which was acknowledged by co-star Zoe Kravitz in an interview in 2017 with BravoTV, in which she responded to a fan question about the fall out by saying, "They didn't get along. We were also in the desert for so long. I think everyone was tired, and confused, and homesick. We saw nothing but sand for six months. You go crazy, you do.

"It's not even personal. I actually don't know if there was one issue. I just think it was like they weren't vibing. It's like summer camp, you know. At some point, everybody has issues with somebody because it's just the way people are."

But it seems like Charlize and Tom have found a happy resolution. Not sure they'll be back for a sequel anytime soon though...
