Charlie Brooks would love to mark her return to EastEnders with Janine opening up a drag bar in Albert Square.

The 40-year-old star returned to the BBC soap this week, seven years after she fled to Paris in the wake of being acquitted for the murder of her boyfriend Michael Moon.

She's set to begin a relationship with James Farrar's character Zack Hudson, but Brooks told The Sun she'd love for Janine to give a new dimension to Walford's night life.

The star said: "I would like to see Janine running a club with load of drag queens and have little Scarlett in there with us. You know, like RuPaul."

Before she can open up her drag bar, though, Janine has a series of dramatic storylines on the way, including her and daughter Scarlett becoming trapped in a fire next week.

Brooks revealed this week that the scenes were filmed during a heatwave, which made for a "literally scorching" shoot as the fire spreads around Phil Mitchell's home.

Away from fiery spectacle and romance, Brooks said she is interested in exploring "the evolution of Janine" as part of her new tenure in the show.

She added: "I do like to give ideas. Sometimes they are like 'nah', but sometimes they say yes.

"I did have suggestions for the script writers and if they listen to you, that's great, and if they don't, that's great."

During her initial run on EastEnders, Janine was one of the most compelling, hated villains in the history of the soap.

Brooks took over the role in 1999 and played the character until 2004, before returning for a second stint between 2008 and her departure in 2014.

Her most famous moment took place on New Year's Day in 2004, when Janine murdered her husband Barry after pushing him down a cliff and on to a rock.

After departing the Square, she went on to take part in I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! — winning the 2012 series.
