TikTok stars Charli and Dixie D'Amelio have addressed the family YouTube video shared earlier this week after facing a huge backlash from fans.
It all started with a seemingly innocent upload from their new YouTube series, Dinner With the D'Amelios, which saw the family and guest James Charles chatting over a dinner that was prepared by personal chef Aaron May.
But the controversy came when Dixie started pretending to throw up and complain about the chef's food, while Charli made a comment about her follower count, telling the table: "I wish I had more time... Imagine if I hit 100 mil a year after hitting a mill?"
"Was the 95 [million] not enough for you?" James replied.
After the video debuted, fans immediately started calling out the TikTok stars for how they treated their chef and also for Charli's follower count mention, which some outlets have reported led to her losing at least 500,000 followers.
"Wow. After watching Dinner with the D’Amelio’s on YouTube, I feel so uncomfortable," one tweeted. "Dixie and Charlie were so rude to the chef when he made them a delicious meal. I can’t." While another shared, "I was watching dinner with the damelios and charli and dixie were being so damn rude to the chef."
"Be grateful for the food you have," wrote a third. "You literally had a personal chef."

After facing mounting criticism, the sisters have now addressed what went down. "Blatantly disrespecting the fact that I'm a human being is not OK," Charli said on an Instagram Live. "You can hate on me for whatever I've done but the fact that all of this is happening because of a misunderstanding. I just feel like that's not okay. If this is the community that I've put myself in, I don't know if I want to do that anymore." She then apologised to fans and added, "I love every single person that supports and follows me, and I hope you guys know that."
Dixie also addressed the backlash, telling fans her team encouraged her to eat the snail in her dinner as a prank to prompt a reaction. "I love chef and I would never disrespect him in any way, and maybe don't judge someone's personality over a 15 second clip," she added.
Meanwhile, the family's personal chef released a statement, saying it was all "blown out of proportion".
"Someone on production thought it would be funny to feed Dixie and Charli snails," he told The Hollywood Fix. "They didn't take it the best. I love Dixie and Charli, I've worked with them before, I'm going to work with them again. Those girls are the greatest, I love them. It was all fun and games."
Dinner guest James Charles also waded in to defend Charli and Dixi in a message posted to Twitter. "This charli situation is NOT sitting right with me," he wrote. "100M followers in one year & y'all expect her to know how to be a perfect role model? death threats because she's a picky eater & made a joke about a milestone? 30+ year olds dragging someone half their age? feels familiar."
