Channel 5 releases first look trailer for new Anne Boleyn drama

Channel 5 has released a first look clip of Jodie Turner-Smith debuting as Henry VIII’s famed second wife for their new drama Anne Boleyn.

The clip shows Turner-Smith walking down, what seems to be a church aisle, while dressed in a black velvet dress and wearing Anne’s iconic ‘B’ pearl choker.

In the clip, it also teases that the series is "The hottest royal drama since The Crown”, so if you were a fan of the Netflix hit, then you’re definitely going to want to add this to your ‘one-to-watch’ list. Here’s everything you need to know…

What’s Channel 5’s Anne Boleyn about?

The three-part psychological thrillers synopsis reads:

“The drama will explore the final months of Anne Boleyn’s life from the eponymous Queen’s perspective, as she struggles to secure a future for her daughter and to challenge the powerful patriarchy closing in around her. Anne Boleyn will depict the key moments that cause Anne to topple, unpicking her immense strength, her fatal vulnerabilities and her determination to be an equal among men."

Who stars in Channel 5’s Anne Boleyn?

Jodie Turner-Smith (The Last Ship, Queen & Slim) will star as Anne Boleyn, second wife to Henry VIII, who ends up being beheaded after many charges (including witchcraft and adultery) are put before her. While Mark Stanley (Game of Thrones) will star as the Tudor king himself.

Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You) will also star closely alongside Turner-Smith as Anne’s brother George Boleyn, while Lola Petticrew (Dating Amber) will play Anne’s love rival and Henry’s third wife, Jane Seymour.

Other cast members will include: Amanda Burton (White House Farm), Thalissa Teixeira (Trigonometry), Jamael Westman (Animals), and Barry Ward (Des).

When will Channel 5’s Anne Boleyn air?

According to Radio Times, the filming for the series wrapped last December in Yorkshire and, while Channel 5 haven’t announced a specific air date, they have confirmed it will hit our screens ‘soon’ – so watch this space!
