Channel 4's Ghost features holograms of the dead delivering messages to their loved ones
A Channel 4 show, Ghost, will feature holograms of terminally ill people delivering messages to their loved ones from beyond the grave.
In what’s being described as “profoundly moving” television, contributors who take part in the series will be able to help family members navigate their way through grief by delivering final messages, advice, and words of comfort post-mortem.
The three-part series is aiming to break taboos about death and will use cutting edge technology to transform the pre-recorded messages into 3D projections that look and sound like the subject.
The channel states: “Ghost will enable a group of terminally ill people to record messages for their loved ones using cutting edge holographic technology.
"These deeply personal missives will then be delivered post mortem in vivid three-dimensional holographic form, allowing them to appear as if from beyond the grave to comfort the loved ones they have left behind."
The format was created by Simon Andreae, who said: “Death is an inevitable part of the life cycle, but its finality is often abrupt and heart-rending.
"Working closely with British psychologists, bereavement experts and holographic technology we’ve created an opportunity to enable some families to see and remember their relative or friend looking and sounding vibrant and healthy in vivid 3D holographic form – delivering a personal message that could only come from them."
Channel 4’s commissioning editor, Jonah Weston, added: "Death is the ultimate taboo and I think many people find it hard to say what they really feel in those last moments.
“To have the chance to leave messages and final wishes for the people you love most is an incredible opportunity, and I am humbled by the people taking part and excited by seeing what they say from 'beyond the grave'."
