Chanel's annual Métiers d'Art show is without fail one of the biggest highlights of the period between fashion seasons, if not of the entire year – and the 2022 collection was no different.

The Métiers d'Art collections 'pay tribute to the virtuoso hands of fashion', acting as a creative dialogue between Chanel and the many artists that it loves, and popping up each year in a different (but invariably stunning) location – which in the past has included the likes of Texas and Mumbai.

For the 2022 show, however, Artistic Director Virginie Viard chose to show the collection in Chanel's historic heartland of Paris. Understandably, as it is also where the French atelier has just unveiled its Le19M building in the 19th arrondissement, a new site dedicated entirely to the Métiers d'Art where the finest artisans are able to continue honing their craft in collaboration with Chanel. Le19M was therefore the natural location choice for this year's show – and provided a suitably striking set.

The exceptional savoir-faire of artisans such as goldsmith Goossens, hatter Maison Michel, feather worker Lemarié and pleater Lognon was on full, glorious display in the collection, which oozed a 'metropolitan yet sophisticated' vibe and showcased each of the chosen maisons d'art at their very finest – with a Chanel twist.

Think graffiti-style embroidery in coloured beads, tweed jackets with sweatshirt sleeves, perfectly hand-pleated skirts, fabulous feather details, intricate embellishments, and, of course, plenty of show-stopping jewels and opulent accessories.
