Chanel just brought back frosted eyeshadow for autumn/winter 2023
If anyone can convince us to revisit frosted eyeshadow, it's Chanel. During the close of Paris Fashion Week yesterday, the luxury house presented its autumn/winter 2023 collection – a celebration of the camellia, lace, pearls and... metallic eye make-up.
While the ode to a flower that has served as a point of inspiration for the house over many years (it is said to have been Coco's favourite) wasn't unexpected, the beauty look came as more of a surprise.
Shimmery, silver-grey toned eye make-up, which Chanel chose to showcase on the catwalk, has been missing from fashion conversations for some time. In recent years, warm, neutral shades (whether metallic or matte) and rainbow bright hues have felt especially current when it comes to eyes, but with the ongoing '90s and '00s style revival it's no surprise that cooler tones are due a return. Plus, as Chanel demonstrates, with chunky mascara and a muted lip it needn't look dated. This make-up has a glamorous, innately French chicness to it and if anything feels more '60s muse than '90s prom.
It was the work of make-up artist Lisa Butler, using Chanel's Les Ombres Multi-Effect Quadra Eyeshadow in 'Modern Glamour', which currently isn't available in the UK, although Givenchy, Clé de Peau Beauté, Charlotte Tilbury and Guerlain do similar versions that look as luxurious on the eyes as in the palettes.
A softer glamour was present in the hairstyles on Chanel's catwalk, where the camellia could be seen fastened to half-up, half-down 'dos as created by hairstylist James Pecis. While some showed off a slick crop, most girls modelled loose, rippling waves which beautifully balanced the stronger make-up.
