People hoping for a slice of a glamorous lifestyle could be in luck as construction of two luxury homes gets under way in an area popular with celebrities.

The four-bed detached properties in East Dean are costing £1.1 million to build but would see buyers live on the doorsteps of artists and broadcasters.

Neighbouring village Friston is home to Turner Prize-winner Sir Grayson Perry and former clergyman-turned-radio show host Richard Coles.

The homes are being built by Highbeech to strict planning regulations to ensure they are in keeping with the South Downs National Park’s standards.

Highbeech is fitting the homes with triple-glazed windows, photovoltaic solar panels and two air-source heat pumps, which it says will lower heating costs by up to 50 per cent.

Carmine Porpora, co-founder and director of Highbeech, said: “Ever since Barry Pigram and I established the business, we’ve considered ourselves homebuilders, not housebuilders.

“Our sole focus is putting time, care and effort into creating new homes for Sussex’s residents because the property is going to be the centre of their life.

“It’s important to us that people have the perfect home, and so we focus on building relationships as well as homes.”
