You might have seen a lot of photos over the last couple of days of celebs, who normally only post perfect selfies, committing the ultimate beauty sin: smeared, messy lipstick.

No this isn?t a new beauty trend, they are smudging their lipstick as part of the new #SmearForSmear social media campaign which has over Instagram and twitter in support of Jo?s Cervical Cancer Trust this week.

The Campaign aims to raise awareness of the importance of women having cervical smear tests during Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, which is from the 24th to the 30th of January.

The campaign, which is in it?s second year, is hoping to raise the numbers of women looking after their health this year - impressively in 2015 the campaign helped the Trust reach over 500 million people.

Here are some key facts that I still find shocking:

  • Diagnoses of cervical cancer have risen by 4%

  • 1 in 3 25-29 year olds do not attend their smear test!

  • #SmearForSmear aims to encourage more women to go for their smear tests

  • One woman is diagnosed with cervical cancer every 3 hours, yet it is one of ? the only cancers that can be prevented.

I personally am hoping that this campaign does have some impact as it is a very important issue. Unfortunately a lot of women do not attend their smear test, which can lead to an early diagnosis of cervical cancer.

As Jo?s Trust explain: Cervical screening is the process of taking a sample of cells from your cervix, which are then examined under a microscope in order to detect changes in the cells (abnormalities) that might develop into cancer in the future.

So how do you take part and raise awareness?

  1. Put your lipstick on

  2. Smear your lipstick and take your #SmearForSmear Selfie

  3. Share your #SmearForSmear & Nominate a friend using #SmearForSmear

  4. Donate by texting ?JCCT16 #5?to 70070
