Trainer and fitness entrepreneur Shaun T has just revealed the results of his last month of training, posting a "before and after" picture to Instagram which highlights his leaner torso and shredded abs. He explained in the caption that over the course of 35 days, he has dropped 8 pounds from 222 to 214, and has reduced his body fat percentage from 18% to 12.%.
He has also built considerable strength in a relatively short space of time, having increased his leg press from 4 plates on the first day of the challenge to 12 at the end. Shaun included a shout-out in the post to his trainer, Kristen Bennett, and his physical therapist, Matt Midkiff, for "keeping him in the game."
However, he was quick to clarify that the visible outer results of his training have had no real bearing on his self-esteem, stating that he loved himself just as much on Day 1 as he did on Day 35, and that his husband Scott Blokker found him "hot AF" at both the beginning and end of his transformation.
"The physical results might change and you might get stronger but love yourself from the beginning first and you’ll be exponentially rewarded on the inside!" He wrote.
It certainly sounds like Shaun approached this process from a healthy place, where his confidence and self-worth were not tied to achieving a certain physique aesthetic. He has spoken publicly before about his struggles with body image, specifically within the contexts of social media and the gay community, both of which can warp your perception of what a healthy body looks like.
"Go to the mirror and just love on yourself," he said in 2020. "And if you have to do that every single day to eliminate those thoughts of 'what do other people think of me' or that voice in the back of your head, 'are other people going to think I'm attractive,' if you have to go in the mirror every single day to get rid of that, please do it... You have the power to make a change and make enhancements in your life so that you feel really great about who you are."
