Kendall Jenner recently took the plunge and dyed her signature brunette locks a gorgeous copper shade.

The model's hair colourist has complemented her complexion with a dark strawberry hue, and with other celebrities such as Sydney Sweeney, Barbie Ferreira, and Zoey Deutch trying out red tones too, copper hair is set to be a major trend.

Tracy Hayes, global ambassador for Fudge, predicts that the most popular shades for 2022 will range from golden apricots to soft copper reds.

"Red gives incredible shine and gloss but is the quickest colour to fade from the hair cuticle. Red tones will not be suitable for everyone, but there's obviously more than one shade of red on the colour palette," she explained. "A copper/paprika shade might not work for a sallow, pale skin tone, but in this instance, deeper mahogany will suit your colouring. If you have pink-toned skin - then cherry and saffron reds will further enhance pinks in the complexion."

Though copper may be bold and beautiful, be warned that it can be a challenging colour to maintain.

To get the most out of your colour, consider requesting a hair gloss at your salon in-between visits to your colourist.

"To encourage red to last, you should book in for regular treatments to keep hair and colour vibrant whilst also using home-care products that protect and enhance colour," advised Tracy, recommending Fudge Professional's Luminizer Shampoo & Weightless Conditioner, which are made with a nourishing blend of Argan and Abyssinian oils to refresh and hydrate strands.

Other at-home product essentials include OSMO's Colour Revive Conditioning Crème in Intense Copper, a three-minute conditioning treatment that is infused with avocado oil and linseed extract to protect colour fade and leave hair vibrant and glossy, as well as Maria Nila's Colour Refresh Bright Copper, which is described as a "colour bomb masque" with non-permanent colour pigments that will quickly freshen up your hair.

And to preserve colour in-between washes, opt for a leave-in conditioner or mist such as MONAT's Colour Locking Protective Spray, the Amika Vault Color-Lock Leave-In Conditioner, or Living Proof's No Frizz Leave-In Conditioner.
