Catherine O’Hara 'said yes right away' when Thom Browne offered to dress her for SAG Awards

Catherine O’Hara "said yes right away" when Thom Browne offered to dress her for the 2021 SAG Awards.

The 67-year-old actress rocked a custom black-and-white sequinned tuxedo, complete with a corset vest and a trompe l’oeil bow tie shirt, for the virtual ceremony on Sunday.

O’Hara, who won the Best Female Actor in a Comedy Series award for her role as Moira Rose in the hit comedy Schitt’s Creek, said she immediately accepted the American fashion designer's offer of a custom outfit for the prestigious prizegiving.

“I said yes right away. I think when you’re offered custom, you commit right away. That would normally scare me, but it didn’t at all with Thom Browne because I love his designs and I think he’s insanely creative," she told WWD.

Browne was inspired by his recent fall 2021 collection for the star's show-stopping look, and said the black-and-white ensemble was also a nod to her onscreen character Moira.

“She is such a truly unique individual who is so true to herself, and that is what I wanted people to see in what she was wearing,” the 56-year-old said.

O’Hara also lamented the lack of award show red carpets this year, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, and said she would give anything to be able to show off her custom outfit.

“I kind of miss the fact that I couldn’t go to a big party and walk around and show everybody the hidden details of my Thom Browne look. I love how whimsical his designs are," she shared.
