When you currently can't visit art galleries, why not create one at home? This appears to be Cate Blanchett's mindset as reports have emerged that the actress is building her very own gallery space in the grounds of her English country manor.

Blanchett bought Highwell House, a £4.9million mansion near Crowborough, East Sussex, in 2015 and recently won planning permission to build a garden office complete with a studio and meditation room at the property.

A new report suggests that she also wants to use the space to house her impressive art collection. The Sydney Morning Herald quoted a source as saying: "I've seen the plans, it's pretty modest," while another source added: "She has a great art collection but she keeps it in her home, not out in the shed!"

Old outbuildings on the countryside estate will reportedly be knocked down to make way for the renovations.

The Australian actress lives at the Victorian country home with her husband Andrew Upton and their four children. The manor house, which was originally built in 1890, has seven bedrooms, seven bathrooms and five reception rooms.

Highwell House is also home to a colony of rare bats, which the local council has insisted must be protected.
