Thousands of troops ‘on standby’ for no-deal chaos

3,500 troops are on standby and ready to be called to deal with the fallout from a no-deal Brexit.

The Defence Secretary, Gavin Williamson, revealed that regular and reserve military personnel are now in a state of ‘readiness’ should they be required during a chaotic exit from the EU.

Lorries overturned on ferry in high winds

A number of lorries have been overturned on a ferry sailing in high winds, toppling into one another and damaging other vehicles.

Several ambulances were sent to the scene along with police, the fire and rescue service and the coastguard, after six vehicles shifted on board the vessel as it sailed from Larne in Northern Ireland to Cairnryan in Dumfries and Galloway.

No one is reported to have been injured in the incident, which happened at around 7.30am on Tuesday, but some passengers were confined to their vehicles.

Neighbour leaves two-year-old 14 years of Christmas presents after he dies

A kind-hearted widower neighbour secretly bought Christmas presents for his two-year-old neighbour to open for the next 14 years – which were finally delivered after he died.

Ken Watson, 87, carried out a final act of kindness by wrapping up a bundle of presents for Cadi Williams, who he had treated like his own granddaughter.

Cadi’s parents, Owen and Caroline Williams, were left in tears on Monday when the presents were delivered by Mr Watson’s daughter to their house in Barry.
