Casualty has cleared up fan confusion over the future of Connie Beauchamp on the medical drama after star Amanda Mealing shared a mysterious Instagram post.

Amanda, who has played Clinical Lead Connie since 2004 and has had stints in both Casualty and its sister show Holby City, shared a photo of a rainbow over some fields and captioned the post: "Never in my life have I sat under an entire rainbow! Going to miss this place. #Wales".

As Casualty is filmed in Wales, her post led many fans to speculate that her saying she would "miss this place" was a hint that she is leaving the area – and therefore potentially the show.

"Hope this doesn't mean you are leaving Casualty," one follower wrote, while another commented, "You'd better not have left Casualty, 2020 will just collapse altogether".

However Casualty has confirmed to Digital Spy that there are no plans for Amanda or Connie to leave and that "it's all just fan speculation".

Casualty is currently on a break from our screens due to the pause in filming caused by the COVID-19 pandemic but filming on the show resumed earlier this month, with work commencing on a special episode which will shine a light on the work of the hospital's Emergency Department staff during the pandemic.

Connie will find her leadership skills pushed to the limit when several of her team fall ill with the virus and she also struggles to keep her personal feelings in check when her lover Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) contracts the virus.

Charlie Fairhead (Derek Thompson) will also be struggling as he is devastated by the impact of the virus on local care homes, while paramedic Lev Malinovsky (Uriel Emil) decides to temporarily move out of his family home to protect his vulnerable young son.

The show will also be airing an episode tomorrow (September 26) which was due to be shown in May but which the BBC decided to skip at the time due to parallels with the coronavirus pandemic.

The episode, named 'Code Orange', was postponed after careful consideration but fans will now have the chance to see the episode, which shows the Emergency Department going into lockdown following a chemical attack.

The previously unseen episode will feature Marty Kirkby (Shaheen Jafargholi) being tested for HIV and some never before seen dramatic scenes between Ethan Hardy (George Rainsford), Fenisha Khatri (Olivia D'Lima) and Will Noble (Jack Nolan) as they clash over Fenisha's pregnancy.

Casualty will air its missing episode on Saturday, September 26 at 9.20pm on BBC One.
