A Cashmere Christmas: Loro Piana Takes Over Harrods

When it comes to describing the festive season, cosy is probably one of the most common adjectives. How would you describe the ambience of a living room where stockings hang above a lit fireplace? Cosy. Mulled wine? With a few cinnamon sticks thrown in, it’s definitely cosy. And cashmere: oh so cosy.

It’s also the word to describe the feeling of a Loro Piana knit. They're a natural pairing, potentially even synonymous with each other if you can afford to gift the failsafe crowdpleaser – or better yet, be on the receiving end of it.

So it's hardly surprising that the Italian maison is going all-out on the festivities this season – which also falls on their centenary, FYI – dousing London's most Christmassy retailer, Harrods façade in its famed yarn.

Firstly, it starts before you enter the Brompton Road store. The 36-window façade has been updated with the story of how the brand’s fibres – cashmere, vicuña, merino wool, and linen, to name a few – come into being, its universal nature exemplified by the display’s vocal point: a 17-metre holiday tree decorated with swathes of fabric and festive ornaments.

It's called the Workshop of Wonders, the brand’s IRL ode to the space where master artisans whip up their creations. Here you’ll find LP’s version of a marionette theatre, where moving sets are populated with hand-painted puppets and hand-knitted fluffy clouds.

That’s all before you step inside! By the Door 6 entrance, explore a pop-up filled with an exclusive selection of neckwear pieces, beanies and cosy socks amidst the house’s first icon from the 1980s, the Grande Unita fringed cashmere scarf.

While by Door 9, find your next Christmas gift within the immersive space, which starts with a greeting from the Master Puppet. Journey within and to discover a makeshift workshop where you can make a holiday decoration: either a vicuña, wreath, tassel, pompon or fairy adorned with the maison’s iconic fibres.

To further celebrate the anniversary, Loro Piana have developed exclusive pieces for the Harrods rails, including a selection of tuxedos and formal tailoring just in time for party season. Why not peruse for a gift for yourself? ’Tis the season, after all.
