For American model Carolyn Murphy, aging isn’t something to be afraid of. She celebrated a milestone birthday over the summer, turning 50 years old. Though the number can bring fears and doubts, she has chosen to approach this new phase with anticipation.

In an Instagram post announcing her spot on the cover of the latest issue of Marie Claire France, she talked her thoughts on and approach to aging.

“The catch all about getting older, and much of one’s perspective on life in general, is a lot of it is in the mind!” she said of the phenomenon. “I turned 50 this past summer and I can honestly say I’ve never felt more excited about this next phase of my life.”

For her, so much of the potential anxiety around it is simply self-induced. In other words, it’s all about perspective. Though people often ask her, she doesn’t have a secret to aging. “My answer is never linear and we all know that what works for one, might not work for another. Yes I have access to the best potions and health hacks but it’s so much more than that,” she explained.

Her “priority,” and what she attributes a lot of her positive experience to is simple: “taking care of my mental and emotional state,” she said. “I commit to following my intuition in decision making (which gets better as you age) and I make time feed my soul (sometimes to peoples dismay because I’m not always out there and available).”

The Marie Claire France feature was an opportunity for her to share these thoughts and join in the aging conversation. “Nothing makes me more happy than doing what I love and talking about what I love (with the added bonus in doing it with friends I love),” she expressed.
