Carol Kirkwood, a familiar face on BBC Breakfast, was noticeably missing from Monday's episode - and the 62 year old is expected to be off-screen for the upcoming weeks. BBC bosses have called in Matt Taylor to fill her shoes, who took to social media to update his fans on X. "Good morning all! I'll be looking after most of your @BBCBreakfast weather forecasts for the next 3 weeks. It's a humid start to the week too, with rain for some. Thunderstorms are possible for a few in the Met Office YELLOW warning area."

Fans warmly welcomed the 46 year old meteorologist into their homes and wished him a great day by commenting on his post. One user wrote: "Good morning Matt have a wonderful day." Another added: "Good morning Matt, the weather has definitely been unpredictable.", reports the Express.

However, the news may have come as a surprise, as Carol has been a beloved figure on the network since joining in 1998. In July, the blonde presenter made a significant career announcement away from the popular morning show.

The weather presenter - who got married to second husband Steve Randall in Buckinghamshire last December 27 - revealed that she had ventured into writing and was about to release a new book, a far cry from her TV career. And the star has left fans eager with her latest reveal about moving into a new venture.

Taking to social media, she gave her followers a sneak peek at her upcoming project, the presenter-turned-writer uploading the cover of her latest novel, Once Upon a Time in Venice. Sharing her delight, she wrote: "So thrilled that my fourth book 'Once Upon a Time in Venice' is out TODAY! ! ! This would not be happening without all your support. THANK YOU @HarperFiction @katebradleySW6 xxx."

In response, one fan wrote: "Congratulations Carol. Wishing you great success." Another commented: "Oooh yaaay can not wait to get it. Super excited about this one, which I am sure will be as good if not better than the others ahhhhhhhhhhh." A third echoed the sentiment, saying simply: "Congratulations! ".

According to the blurb, the novel is set against the stunning backdrop of Venice, where the lives of three characters intertwine dramatically - but will hidden dangers dash their hopes and dreams?
