From ELLE

  • In a new interview on The Bradshaw Boys podcast, Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell revealed that she once went on a date with John Corbett.

  • Corbett played one of protagonist Carrie Bradshaw's love interests, Aidan Shaw, on the HBO show.

  • Bushnell also said that it never would have worked out because of her mother's negative opinion of Aidan.

If anyone's read Sex and the City, they'll be well aware that author Candace Bushnell and protagonist Carrie Bradshaw are basically the same person. Turns out, they have some of same love interests too.

In a new appearance on The Bradshaw Boys podcast, Bushnell revealed, 'I did go to dinner with John Corbett.' Corbett, of course, played Aidan Shaw, Carrie's first fiancé in the series. She continued, 'I went out to dinner with him, it was romantic, [but] all I could think was, "My mother's gonna kill me."'

As for why it was never going to work, Bushnell explained, 'I'm never gonna be team Aiden for Carrie. … I can't for a variety of reasons, but one of the reasons was that my mother hated Aidan.'

Years ago, Bushnell told Us Weekly the same thing, further elaborating that her mother's opinion of Aidan may have contributed to Carrie's happily ever with Mr. Big.

'My mother always hated Aidan, for some reason, so I could never really be team Aidan,' she revealed. 'Whenever I would go home and visit my parents, my mother would say, "Why is Carrie with Aidan and not Mr. Big? You've got to get rid of Aidan."'

So there you have it. Had it not been for the author's mother who had a serious vendetta against Aidan, who knows what might have been for Bushnell and Corbett?
