We’re edging ever closer to the first official day of summer here in the UK, so how will you celebrate it?

A visit to the seaside? An inner-city lido? Paddling pool? However you do it, it should involve water if this heat holds out.

In which case a particular day out might be of interest to you; floating down Regent’s Canal in a hot tub.

Called the HotTug (let’s not begin to dissect that name), it’s an engine-powered hot tub that’s due to visit London this summer.

An invention of a man called Frank de Bruijn, who hand made them himself, the tub will have you sailing down one of the UK’s most-famous canals along with six friends.

According to its Crowdfunder page, it will be heated to a reasonable 38 degrees Celsius – and while we can’t imagine that the Canal is particularly squeaky clean you’ll be safe in the tub’s fresh water.

Though you can also bring some beers – but of course – which might mean your outing doesn’t end up quite so fresh after all.

With early bird prices, £23 per person will get you 90 minutes of time on the water. Or for the more adventurous, pay a little more to go VIP and get a personal captain’s hat, robe and towel.

It launches on 12 July, which is plenty of time to get your swimming gear ready and cancel all of your summer plans in order to spend July marinading in it.
