Cameron Diaz 'not looking to' return to acting as she can't imagine leaving daughter

Cameron Diaz has said she is “not looking to” get back into movies as she can’t imagine being away from her daughter.

The Mask star has not appeared on the big screen since the Annie adaptation in 2014, and has previously said she felt a sense of “peace” walking away from her Hollywood career.

She welcomed daughter Raddix in 2019, and has now said being a mother has been the “most fulfilling part” of her life and that she couldn’t stand to be away from her child for the long hours it takes to shoot a movie.

Speaking on the Quarantined With Bruce radio show, Diaz said: “I’m never going to say never about anything in life, I’m just not that person. So will I ever make a movie again? I'm not looking to, but will I? I don't know. I have no idea. Maybe. Never say never.

“But I couldn't imagine being a mum now where I'm at as a mother with my child at her first year to have to be on a movie set that takes 14 hours, 16 hours of my day away from my child.

“I just couldn't... I personally feel like that I wouldn't have been the mum that I am now had I chosen to do that at any other time in my life.

“And I feel for so many mothers who can't, that have to go to work, you know, whatever they're doing.

"I feel so much for them and for their children and for all that, but it does really take a village.”

Diaz, 48, went on: “I just feel so blessed that I get to be here now with my child and, you know, get to be the mother that I get to be.

“It's such a blessing, it's completely privileged and I'm just really, really grateful.”

Diaz and her husband Benji Madden married in 2015.

They had not shared that they were expecting a baby and made the surprise announcement that Raddix had arrived at the start of 2020.

“We are so happy, blessed and grateful to begin this new decade by announcing the birth of our daughter, Raddix Madden,” they wrote on Instagram.

“She instantly captured our hearts and completed our family. While we are overjoyed to share the news, we also feel a strong instinct to protect our little one’s privacy. So we won’t be posting pictures or sharing any more details, other than the fact that she is really really cute!! Some would even say RAD.”
