Callum Hawkins will miss the weekend's World Half Marathon Championships in Poland due to an ankle injury.

The 28-year-old Scottish runner has been pre-selected for the Tokyo Olympics in the marathon. He was added to Great Britain's half marathon squad after running 01:00:01 in Marugame, Japan in February.

The championships were rescheduled earlier in the year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last Monday, Hawkins competed for the first time since February, running 14:05 in the Fast 5k event at the Three Sisters Race Circuit near Manchester.

Steph Davies and Charlotte Purdue will also not be competing in Poland due to injury.
