Call the Midwife's Cyril and Lucille's marriage explored after love triangle develops
In the latest episode of Call the Midwife, BBC One viewers witnessed a poignant moment as newly-qualified midwife Rosalind Clifford (played by Natalie Quarry) subtly revealed her developing feelings for Cyril Robinson (Zephryn Taitte). As volunteers at the local homeless shelter, they'd formed a strong bond through their mutual commitment to helping others.
However, Rosalind's growing attachment to Cyril was dealt a setback when he announced his decision to take a break and visit his wife, Lucille (Leonie Elliott), in Jamaica. Cyril had been prompted by a letter from Lucille in a previous episode, realising how deeply he missed her and the need to nurture their marriage.
Rosalind, though clearly heartbroken, selflessly expressed her happiness for Cyril's chance to reunite with Lucille.

Lucille's temporary departure from the show was a result of prioritising her mental well-being following a miscarriage. She left during season 12 due to a combination of depression, homesickness, and the prevailing anti-immigrant sentiment in Britain at that time.
Leonie Elliott confirmed her exit from the show in a heartfelt message on her social media, stating: "Having spent six years on a truly wonderful show, with a fantastic team, I have fallen deeper and deeper in love with Lucille.
"I feel honored to have represented the pioneering Windrush generation and their incredible impact on British society."
While Lucille had the option to return from Jamaica, Cyril was hopeful she would. However, after a trip to Jamaica in season 12, he came back to Poplar alone.
It was later revealed that Lucille was flourishing in her new job and enjoying being with her family.
This has led to speculation among fans that Cyril might exit the series to join his wife in Jamaica permanently.
In 2024, fans took to Reddit to discuss this possibility, with user clutzycook suggesting: "I think they'll do a Peter/Chummy. He'll hang around for another season or so and then just vanish and it'll be assumed that he went off to be with her finally."
However, Wawa-85 proposed that a romance could blossom between Cyril and Rosalind, which could lead to Cyril divorcing Lucille after his visit to Jamaica.
They commented: "I don't think they will just disappear Cyril as he's been central to the story in quite a few episodes this season. There seems to be some subtle flirtation between the new midwives Joyce and Rosalind and Cyril so wonder if that may come of something."
Sickofchildren concurred, adding: "He's got a lot of chemistry with that new midwife, they'd make a nice couple. Lucille never appreciated him but then again he shouldn't be forced into a new marriage."
Ninevah8 chimed in: "Came here to see this - he'll be getting together with the new midwife (can't remember her name) and it'll open up the ongoing discussion about interracial relationships with main characters."
Call the Midwife is broadcast on BBC One, Sundays at 8pm.
