It has been officially confirmed that Call the Midwife will return for series 10 on 18 April, airing on BBC One.

The announcement was posted on the show’s verified social media accounts, including Twitter and Facebook.

“IT'S OFFICIAL! #CallTheMidwife Series 10 will premiere on Sunday 18th April on @BBCone Eleven days to go” read the official tweet, accompanied by a new promotional image of a smiling Trixie, Lucille and Phyllis.

The news was echoed with the same image in a longer post on Facebook, which also promised sneak previews of exclusive video content and news ahead of the first episode of the new series.

“We are delighted to confirm that Call the Midwife will be returning to your screens in just eleven days time!! Our tenth series will premiere on BBC1 at 8pm on Sunday 18th April,” confirmed the post.

Series 10 will be set in 1966 and, as always, we expect it will touch on important historical moments of the time.

The latest series was expected to return to our screens in January, but filming was delayed due to restrictions surrounding the pandemic.

This meant the premier date was pushed back by a number of months until this Spring, but exactly when we could expect our favourite midwives back in our livings rooms every week was not confirmed.

Now the wait is over and we finally have an official date for the show’s much anticipated return. That’s Sunday evening entertainment sorted!

The show's creator Heidi Thomas has also already discussed plans ahead of series 11, so there is plenty more to come from Call the Midwife yet.

Call the Midwife series 10 will begin on BBC One Sunday 18 April at 8pm
