Buckingham Palace has released photos of this year's Christmas decorations

Christmas trees and fairy lights have been going up in homes across the country this month, including the Queen's London residence, Buckingham Palace.

A tweet shared by The Royal Family's Twitter account on Tuesday announced, "Christmas has arrived at Buckingham Palace!" with a video of the palace's decorations attached.

The tweet highlighted that the Christmas tree was introduced to Britain in the 18th Century by Queen Charlotte, consort of King George III, and the beloved festive tradition has continued to be embraced by royal households ever since.

As to be expected, the Queen's trees have a strong royal theme this year (and yes, she has more than one to think about, including this spectacular display at Windsor Castle).

A 15ft Nordmann fir tree from Great Windsor Park stands in the palace's Marble Hall, with two smaller firs in the Grand Entrance.

Twinkling fairy lights and crown-shaped decorations adorn the large pines, while the gilt bronze balustrade on the Grand Staircase has been covered with a colourful garland. It's safe to say there's no 'less is more' approach in this household.

Buckingham Palace isn't the only royal home to get the Christmas treatment, though. Clarence House, the official residence of Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall, has also unveiled its tree.

This year, the Duchess invited children from Helen & Douglas House hospice and the Roald Dahl Charity to decorate the tree with a mix of baubles and felt and wooden ornaments.
