Brittany Mahomes is offering a peek at her baby daughter's nursery.

The Kansas City Current co-owner, who partnered with Crate & Kids to design her daughter Golden Raye's nursery, spoke to PEOPLE about what the behind-the-scenes design process looked like as she started creating the space.

"Our life can be hectic, especially with two little ones running around, so our goal was to make this space serene and calming," Brittany told PEOPLE ahead of welcoming her third baby. "I love a cozy, moody vibe and felt like the dusty rose was a peaceful palette and something that she could grow into."

When it came time to divide up the work, Brittany said that while husband Patrick Mahomes was involved, she was the one who led the project.

"I took the lead with presenting ideas to the design team, but Patrick definitely had a say in choosing select pieces and options they gave us," Brittany explained. "We both spend a lot of time in the nursery, so we wanted to make sure it was a space we were both comfortable in."

"We worked with Crate & Kids on the nursery because of their amazing Design Desk services. Their team shared beautiful renderings of the nursery based on the inspiration that I shared with them, and we were blown away by their designs."

Brittany also shared that her daughter's name actually helped to inspire the design of her nursery.

"The design is inspired by baby's name! There are lots of personal touches throughout to go with the theme," she said. "Crate & Kids had some really cute pieces that worked perfectly for the vibe I was looking for."

There were a couple of items that Brittany knew had to make it into the nursery, which included a comfortable nursery glider.

"After having two babies, I know how much time you will spend in that chair and a comfortable place to sit is needed," Brittany said. "I love the Nessa Sherpa Glider from Crate & Kids, it's super comfortable and looks perfect in that space."

"Plus, the matching ottoman is moveable, which is a necessity since Patrick is a lot taller than I am — we love that we can adjust it to whoever is using the chair."

There were also a few things that Brittany knew she didn't need in the space since this is her third time around.

"I've learned from every baby that you don't need nearly as much as you think you do, especially in the early days," Brittany said.

"I always tell new moms to focus on the essentials for newborns — a crib for them to grow in and a glider to rock them in at night, plus the smaller things like a bassinet, diapers, onesies, and to add in cute clothes and larger items to the registry in sizes for when they're a little older."

As she got ready to welcome her third baby, Brittany said she was "feeling very ready" and "excited about becoming a family of 5." Even her older kids — Sterling Skye, 3, and Patrick "Bronze" Lavon III, 2 — were ready to be big siblings.

"They're both excited to have a baby sister — even though Bronze is still a little too young to fully understand, he can't wait," Brittany said. "Sterling is the best big sister already and has been loving going into the baby's room to play with the new toys."

The famous couple shared that while they were able to chose a name for their daughter "pretty quickly," they struggled for a minute on the middle name — despite Sterling's suggestions.

"Sterling has thrown out names," Brittany revealed. "She wants us to name her Elsa, but we won't be doing that."
