Britney Spears has spoken out against fans who called the police to her house after growing concerned when she announced plans to change her name to 'River Red' and deactivated her Instagram account.

According to TMZ, fans reached out to Ventura County Sheriff’s Office earlier this week and law enforcement officials were dispatched to Spears' home to check if she was okay, but determined that she was not in any danger.

Now, Spears has taken to Twitter to share her response to the ordeal, writing: "As everyone knows, the police were called to my home based on some prank phone calls. I love and adore my fans but this time things went a little too far and my privacy was invaded."

She went on, "The police never entered my home and when they came to my gate they quickly realised there was no issue and left immediately."

Spears' said that having police called to her house unnecessarily had left her feeling "gaslit and bullied" and ended her post by saying: "I truly hope the public and my fans who I care so much about can respect my privacy moving forward."

Her post received a mixed reaction from fans, with some arguing that they're still concerned for her wellbeing, whilst others stressed that it's time the singer was left alone. "They didn’t enter the home so a wellness check was not conducted? For 13 years the public was lied to and Britney was forced to lie and say she was okay when she wasn’t. This wasn’t based on a prank call," one fan tweeted, as someone else said: "I’m so embarrassed for this fanbase! I’m so sorry about this! Yes we do care about you but I would never thought some of them in your fanbase would go extreme to call the police [sic]. Some of them can’t handle that you’re avoiding spotlight. I’m happy you’re doing well for yourself!"

The incident comes shortly after Spears made headlines when she was accused of having a "meltdown" at a restaurant, reigniting conversations on how she is consistently hounded by paparazzi and the tabloids – and now, seemingly, her fans.
