Last week, Britney Spears disappeared from Instagram – the move prompted fans to call the police to her house, for a "wellness check". Then, she shared that the incident left her feeling "bullied" by fans.

Spears has now responded more fully to claims and concerns that she is "having a breakdown".

To recap, it all started when a video – shot without the singer's permission – was shared by TMZ, along with a headline that accused Spears of being "manic". A few days later, Spears sparked concern among fans when she announced plans to change her name to 'River Red'. It was then that she deactivated her social media accounts, prompting fans to send law enforcement officers to her home.

Now, Spears has made a return to Instagram and has shut down rumours about her mental health. "Since everyone thinks they know my story. THINK AGAIN!!!" she told her 41.6 million followers in a post. "Nope I’m not having a breakdown… I am who I am and moving forward in my life. I have never felt better!!!"

She went on to reiterate her name change, and then referenced the conservatorship that she was recently freed from, adding: "Maybe if you walked in my shoes, then maybe just maybe you could understand."

The 41-year-old ended her post by reminding fans that she's free to do whatever she likes, including deactivating her social media accounts. "Yes I took my Instagram down and now it’s back up, because I can!!!"

Spears' post has racked up over 120k likes in just a few hours, although there are no comments because the singer has turned off the commenting feature on her Instagram posts.
