Britney Spears inspired by Carrie Bradshaw's 'sophisticated' outfits

Britney Spears is inspired by Sex and the City character Carrie Bradshaw's fashion choices.

The pop star took to Instagram on Tuesday to post a selfie showing her posing in a floral print top with pink roses in her hair and a choker with a rose attached around her neck.

In the accompanying caption, Britney explained that she wanted to recreate one of Carrie's iconic looks, as created by actress Sarah Jessica Parker and costume designer Patricia Field.

"I do love (the) Sex and the City era of how Carrie could enlighten each episode with the girliest, coolest, sexiest, crazy, sophisticated wardrobe known to mankind!!!!" she wrote. "She literally made every woman in America open their eyes in the most refreshing way... I mean it wasn't boring at all ... she made clothes fun!!!! It seems a lot of her pieces were made specifically for her so you can't really buy them anywhere but she definitely inspired me !!!!"

Britney - who is currently in a battle to end her controversial conservatorship - went on to share that she is currently re-watching the fourth season of Sex and the City, and is fascinated by the way in which Sarah Jessica explored Carrie's flaws in the show.

"I feel like we are all girls wanting to have someone to look up to who will inspire us ... yet it's very hard because there will always be somebody prettier ... smarter ... and skinner ... but if you look at life like Carrie's clothes, you will see perfect is boring!!!! I want to be different like Carrie!!!!" the mother-of-two continued, before referencing her mysterious upcoming project: "Psssss Beyoncé and Carrie both inspired Project Rose!!!!!"
