A new documentary, Framing Britney, chronicles singer Britney Spears' portrayal in the media from a young age and subsequent mental health issues, which lead to her father, Jamie Spears, being granted control of her finances in court. Many of Britney's fans oppose Jamie having so much control over her life, money and schedule – and have joined in with the 'Free Britney' movement, which argues that if she's not capable of being independent, then Britney shouldn't have continued to tour and release music.
It's believed Britney has said she will refuse to perform unless her conservatorship is lifted and now, her boyfriend, actor Sam Asghari has spoken out on social media against Jamie too.
Posting on Instagram Stories, Sam, who met the global icon and mother of two on the set of her 2016 music video for Slumber Party, said, "Now it’s important for people to understand that I have zero respect for someone trying to control our relationship and constantly throwing obstacles our way."
He continued on to say, "In my opinion James is a total dick. I won’t be going into details because I’ve always respected our privacy but at the same time I didn’t come to this country to not be able to express my opinion and freedom." Sam also added a 'mic drop' gif to his post, indicating that perhaps this is something he's wanted to comment on for some time.
Britney herself has also seemingly posted about the documentary and her familial relationships, sharing a video of her performing Toxic live on stage three years ago. She reminded her 27.5 million followers that just because you think you know what's happening in somebody's life, the real story could be very different.
"Can’t believe this performance of Toxic is from 3 years ago!!! I’ll always love being on stage, but I am taking the time to learn and be a normal person...," Britney wrote. "I love simply enjoying the basics of every day life!!!! Each person has their story and their take on other people’s stories!!!! We all have so many different bright beautiful lives 🌹🌸🌷🌼!!! Remember, no matter what we think we know about a person's life it is nothing compared to the actual person living behind the lens 📷✨ !!!!"
We hope that whatever is going on behind the scenes that Britney is safe, well and happy.
