One of the mottos I always stick to in life is, "never pick up a basket in Boots". Even if you just went in for some cotton wool rounds and a fresh box of tampons, I can guarantee that if you pick up a basket you're f**cked...if you can excuse my French.

A new foundation, some false eyelashes for that big night out you will inevitably bail on, all the packets of face wipes, 3 bottles of shampoo because it's on 3 for 2 and yeah why not an extra packet of chewing gum once you're at the till.

Yep, when it comes to beauty shopping we're not ashamed to admit we struggle with the concept of self restraint. But a new study by Groupon suggests that British women spend an average of £70,294 on their appearance in their lifetime.

Broken down, that works out to be £1,352 a year, or £112.65 a month and seeing how easy it is to spend £30 on that little Boots trip, those numbers don't really shock us.

1,000 British women were interviewed for the study and it was found that £53.87 of the total monthly spend was spent entirely on face products.

But the one beauty area we splurge the most on is makeup, with the average women spending at least £13.10 every month on makeup. Pretty sure our monthly makeup spend is at least double that tbh.

What do you think, are these numbers shocking to you? Or is your MAC addiction no big deal?
