Britain's Got Talent Golden Buzzer contestant previously blasted the show on Twitter
The contestant that was awarded Ant and Dec’s Golden Buzzer on this week’s Britain’s Got Talent actually berated the show during previous seasons.
When magician Marc Spelmann won over everyone – including the crowd, judges, and Ant and Dec – last Saturday night, he was so impressive that he was given the Golden Buzzer treatment by its hosts – meaning he avoided bootcamp and made it through to the live shows.
However, people were quick to point out that Marc hadn’t always admired BGT as much as the show currently adored him.
In a series of tweets, the magician berated the reality TV talent show, asking people to boycott it.
According to the Sun, he ranted in 2012 and 2013 about how much he disliked the ITV programme, saying: ‘This is the last I’ll say, I promise,’ he began in May of 2012. ‘#BGT is a mockery of entertainment. It’s a joke, Simon is laughing at the deluded public. Do not vote!’ he pleaded.
The following year, he still didn’t think any more favourably after tweeting his thoughts during the 2013 final: ‘#EggAttack musician chucking eggs at Simon. Wonder if it was truly random or a publicity stunt to detract from [a] poor final?’
After having deleted the offending tweets, Marc commented on what he previously had said about the show: ‘I have changed rather a lot in the last six years and the offhand tweets I made about Britain’s Got Talent many years ago in no way reflect my thoughts and feelings on the show now,’ he claimed.
‘I am a huge fan of the series and it has been a dream of mine to perform for the judges since before my daughter was born.’
The contestant has certainly changed his tune over the past five years, now confirming his tweets were ‘careless comments made from my sofa’ and insists he’s proud and grateful to be part of the 2018 series: ‘The outpouring of support I have received from the public since getting the golden buzzer has been overwhelming and I can’t thank Britain’s Got Talent and the public enough.
‘I am very proud to be part of the show.’
