Bridgerton's Simone Ashley lands next film role

Bridgerton star Simone Ashley and former One Direction singer Zayn Malik will appear in a new animated film together.

The pair will star in 10 Lives alongside the likes of Living's Bill Nighy, comedian Mo Gilligan, Death on the Nile's Sophie Okonedo, and Ted Lasso star Jeremy Swift.

The film, directed by Duck Duck Goose's Chris Jenkins, is about Beckett, a pampered and selfish cat who takes the lives he's been given for granted, as reported by Deadline.

After losing his ninth life, Beckett begs to be given a second chance and to show he can learn from his mistakes. Eventually, he is given a new set of lives, but they come with certain conditions.

London-based production company Taost has acquired Chinese distribution rights for the film as part of the start-up's plans to expand into the East.

Once 10 Lives has been approved by censors, Taost will seek a distribution partner in China. Speaking about the acquisition, Taost President and CEO, Rocky Shi, said: "We are thrilled to have secured the Chinese distribution rights to our film '10 Lives'. China is a massive market for animation, and securing distribution rights here will allow us to reach a wider audience and build strong partnerships in the region."

While 10 Lives may be in its early stages, it won't be long until Ashley is on our screens again as she reprises her role as Kate Sharma in hit Netflix series Bridgerton.

The second series of the period drama focused on Kate's romance with husband Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), though it seems the third installment, which is yet to have a release date, will turn its attention to Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton).

A synopsis for the upcoming series reads: "Penelope Featherington has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin Bridgerton after hearing his disparaging words about her last season.

"She has, however, decided it's time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters. But lacking in confidence, Penelope's attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly.

"Eager to win back her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband this season. But when his lessons start working a little too well, Colin must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly."
