Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan teases Penelope and Colin's season 3 romance

The third season of Netflix's Regency hit series Bridgerton will zero in on one of the books' most anticipated romances – that between fan-favourite Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton.
Skipping ahead in the novels' timeline to the fourth book in the series, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, the TV show's third season will see the two friends – played by Luke Newton and Derry Girls' Nicola Coughlan – finally exploring their feelings for each other.
As Pen has been smitten with the Bridgerton sibling for quite some time now, Coughlan was able to reveal that the new instalment will translate that build-up into some steamy scenes, very much in line with the mood of season one.
"I think, because we've had two seasons of build up, it's probably going to be the former," she said on the Variety Awards Circuit Podcast, when asked whether the new season of Bridgerton will be straight-up sexy or more of a slow-burner like season two.
"I haven't read the scripts. I've just been given an overview," she clarified.
Coughlan herself first announced the news that Bridgerton season three would focus on Penelope and Colin – or Polin, as fans affectionately call the couple – last month.
While the first season of the Shondaland series followed Daphne's (Phoebe Dynevor) sexual awakening with the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), the next chapter went in a very different direction.
Bridgerton's second season, which premiered in March, took things more slowly as Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and series newcomer Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) went from enemies to lovers.
Bridgerton seasons 1-2 are streaming now on Netflix.
