Warning! This article contains a major Bridgerton spoiler…

Netflix’s regency romance really is the gift that keeps on giving. After binge-watching the series in just one day, we’ve been living for every tiny bit of Bridgerton gossip we can get.

So, when Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington, dropped a massive Bridgerton bombshell on Twitter yesterday, we were very excited to say the least.

While most of us were completely shocked when we found out that Penelope was Lady Whistledown in the hit series, it appears the actress wanted us to know all along.

Nicola took to Twitter to ask fans if they’d spotted the hint. “Ok I’m just curious, has anyone spotted the massive Easter Egg about Penelope in the very first scene of Bridgerton?” she tweeted.

Fans immediately flocked in with their guesses, but only a few got the right answer. “The quill?” tweeted one eagled eyed viewer, to which Nicola replied, “Ding Ding Ding!!”

She then went on to reveal, "When I filmed Penelope’s first scene, I chose a prop, a massive massive feather that looked a lot like: [a quill]."

So, did you spot it?

We certainly didn’t. But can you really blame us? We were too distracted by Regé-Jean Page and Phoebe Dynevor's chemistry.

The gossip got us thinking again about what might be in store for Penelope, aka Lady Whistledown, in series two? One thing is for sure, the ton will certainly be abuzz when her identity is revealed.

Claudia Jessie, who plays Penelope’s bestie Eloise, predicts her character will be just as shocked as we were about the twist. Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, Claudia said: “She is going to be pissed. I just can’t imagine what that is going to be like.”

As if we weren't excited enough for the next instalment!
