Bridgerton season three is officially on the way, and there's lots to get excited about. Season two of Netflix's romance period drama dropped on the 25 March, and while we're all still obsessed with Kate Sharma and Anthony Bridgerton's story, there will soon be another Regency couple to fawn over.

Here's everything we know about Bridgerton season 3 so far, from expected release date to casting news and what might happen in the next series.

What have the cast said about Bridgerton season 3?

OK, we might just be getting over Bridgerton season two, but there's plenty of good news coming from the cast about season three. The most recent exciting update: season three will officially be about Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton! Hoorah.

Viewers have long been huge (read: HUGE) fans of Polin, keenly waiting for the pair to have their romantic moment in the spotlight - and that's just what's about to happen with season three.

Penelope actress Nicola Coughlan confirmed the news on Instagram, reposting Netflix's announcement alongside a photo of her and Colin actor Luke Newton. She wrote in the caption, "Like Lady Whistledown I’ve been keeping quite a big secret for quite a long time… but I can finally tell you that @bridgertonnetflix Season Three is Colin and Penelope’s Story ❤️."

Amazing news! Speaking about the update, Nicola told Netflix's Tudum site, "I feel like if you see Penelope fawning over this boy for another season, you’ll be like, 'Get it together! Come on, move on and get over it.' [Showrunner] Jess [Brownell] has talked to Luke and I through the season, and I think people are going to be really obsessed. I think book fans are going to be happy."

It was previously thought that a third season of Bridgerton would focus on the third Julia Quinn Bridgerton book, titled An Offer From a Gentleman - which follows second eldest brother, Benedict Bridgerton, and his romance with Sophie Beckett. However, it looks as though we'll be jumping ahead to book no.4, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, about Penelope and Colin.

As for other S3 plot updates: Kate and Anthony are officially coming back! Kate actress Simone Ashley has spoken out about what we can expect from the couple in series three, and there's plenty more romance to come. The actress told Deadline, "We’re going to be back! Kate and Anthony are just getting started."

She went on, "We have the amazing Jess Brownell who is taking the lead as showrunner in season three. In season two, there was a lot of push and pull between Kate and Anthony, there were complications with the family, and then they find each other towards the end. I think everything is just starting. I’d like to see Kate just let go a bit more and play more in season three and kind of swim in that circle of love together. I think they both deserve it."

Ashley also teased Kate and Anthony's very own "family," saying, "I want to keep that softness and vulnerability to Kate, for sure, and she can share that with Anthony. I’m just excited for her to have a home and to have a family. I’m excited to see her grow. I think I’d like to see Kate being much braver and less headstrong and more heart strong." Exciting!

As for the rest of the cast, they're *just* as excited for Bridgerton season three as we are. Soon after the news broke Nicola Coughlan (who plays Penelope Featherington) shared her excitement with fans on Twitter. Plus, she also offered up a little hint surrounding Penelope's relationship with Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), writing, "Polin Stans this is our moment!!"

Can't. Wait.

Who will star in Bridgerton season 3?

In big news, Netflix revealed in mid-May 2022 that fan favourite Francesca Bridgerton (played by Ruby Stokes) is being recast due to a filming clash with another project (Lockwood & Co.) The role will now be taken on by Hannah Dodd, who played the younger Sienna Miller in Anatomy Of A Scandal.

The official character description reads, "Francesca Bridgerton is a bit of a mystery within her chatty, extroverted family. Despite her reserved nature, she goes along to get along when it comes to society affairs, fortified with a dry wit and pragmatism that confound the fickle ton yet seem to draw attention when she least desires it."

Thanks to the new Polin announcement, Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton are also confirmed to be returning as Penelope and Colin. Plus, Simone Ashley has revealed that she and Jonathan Bailey will also be back as Kate and Anthony.

Phoebe Dynevor (Daphne), Claudia Jessie (Eloise) and Luke Thompson (Benedict) also returned for season two - so we'd hope to see them back for season three as well. There's also season two newcomer Charithra Chandran as Edwina Sharma. Here's hoping she'll be back on screens for a third season too!

When was Bridgerton season 3 announced?

Bridgerton season three was initially confirmed back in April 2021. Plus, season four has already been announced too - so it's double the good news!

The news was shared by Netflix on Facebook, in a statement which read, "Esteemed members of the Ton, it seems we have a rather special announcement. Bridgerton shall return for seasons three and four. The author shall have to purchase more ink... Yours Truly, Lady Whistledown."

When will Bridgerton season 3 be released?

Unfortunately, there's no official release date for Bridgerton series three just yet. Season one dropped on Netflix on 25th December 2020, while season two was released on 25th March 2022. So, with more than a year between seasons, we'd expect season three to launch at some point in 2023.

Is there a Bridgerton season 3 trailer?

Sadly not right now. Still, there's the whole of seasons one and two to rewatch again and again for now.

Bridgerton season two is on Netflix now.
