Bride agrees to screen Champions League final at her wedding

For some football supporters, watching key matches is more important than almost anything – even, it seems, their own wedding day.

While many will find this hard to empathise with, one woman has been called “the most understanding bride-to-be of all time” after agreeing to screen a football match at her upcoming nuptials.

Bride-to-be Simonie’s wedding to her fiancé James falls this Saturday, which coincides with the Champions League final between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur football clubs.

As the wedding approaches, Simonie has agreed for James, a Liverpool supporter, to play the 8pm match on a large screen in the wedding marquee.

“I was upset at first,” she told presenters Adil Ray and Ranvir Singh, who are today standing in for regular ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenters Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid.

“I was quite calm but it’s like my brain just went no Simonie, you’re a woman, you need to overreact, and then my brain just went completely insane,” she added.

Asked how it would work, Simonie’s future husband James explained: “We’ve got the disco which will be at one side of the marquee, then the other side we’ll have the screen, then hopefully when Liverpool scores everyone will just go a bit mad.”

There are mixed reactions on social media, with some making jokes about the pre-wedding hurdle.

Several viewers were outraged at the idea of putting on the football on such an important day.

However, others were in favour of the compromise, arguing it set a good foundation for their marriage together.

Later in the thread, the groom himself weighed in to give his two cents on the issue, stressing he didn’t “force” his bride to put it on.

Weddings can often bring out the best and the worst in couples.

More positive stories include a man who proposed to his girlfriend by taking her on an engagement ring treasure hunt.

Other couples crumble in the stress-filled run-up, like the bride who discovered her husband-to-be’s Tinder dating profile two days before their wedding, and the groom who hit on a teenage waitress at his own wedding.
