Bradley Cooper has finally addressed rumours of a romance between him and Lady Gaga.

The Hangover star said that the intense performance between him and the House of Gucci actor at the 2019 Oscars, which led to speculation of a possible romance, was intended to help him overcome his fears of singing live.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the father-on-one said of the pair sitting so closely together during the show: ‘Just from a personal standpoint, it reduces the anxiety level.’

The performance in question was the pair’s rendition of the song 'Shallow' from their Oscar-winning film A Star is Born, the romantic musical that Cooper also directed and starred in alongside the singer.

Speaking of his and Gaga’s on-screen relationship and the particular scene they recreated at the Academy Awards Cooper says: ‘They kind of fall in love in that scene in the film. It’s that explosive moment that happens to happen to them on a stage in front of thousands of people – It would have been so weird if we were both on stools facing the audience.’

Cooper, 46, and Gaga, 35 became close during the filming of the 2018 movie.

The film is about young singer Ally Maine, played by Gaga, who not only finds fame but forms a romantic relationship with Cooper’s character Jackson, a struggling alcoholic musician.

Cooper, who shares four-year-old daughter Lea with ex Irina Shayk, also echoed his admiration for the Poker Face singer during the interview.

‘She’s just so terribly charismatic and beautiful,' he said. 'When I met her, I thought, "If I can just harness that … then it’s just for me to mess up." But then, when we started working together, I realised, "Oh, oh, the sky’s the limit in terms of what she’s able to do and her commitment level",' he says.

Cooper's comments come ahead of Gaga's new film House of Gucci in which she plays Patrizia Reggiani, the Italian socialite and ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci who hired a hitman to kill the Italian businessman who founded the namesake fashion house, in the biopic about his life.

When explaining his decision to cast Gaga for the House of Gucci role, director Ridley Scott said: ‘I found [Gaga] to be inordinately approachable and, frankly, a lot of fun. She’s very smart and very, very perceptive. I knew after that first meeting, it was essential that she would do this part. She must. And, of course, because of her very recent success [in A Star Is Born], that made it a lot easier for us to get going and get a proper budget.'

As for Cooper, his directional debut is one of many exciting projects to come from the star, who’s been nominated for multiple Oscars, including a joint one for Best Motion Picture of the Year, with American filmmaker Tod Phillips and film producer Emma Tillinger Koskoff for The Joker.

It's safe to say, we can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.
