When the shops reopen this week, those of us who pilgrimage to the high street will be looking for some fun, fabulous fashion to lift the mood.

And high street heavyweight & Other Stories’ latest designer collaboration just gave us a very good reason to hit the shops IRL.

Partnering with uber cool Copenhagen-born, London-based label Brøgger, the 12-piece collection, which launches on December 3, is an eighties-inspired ode to the maximalism, ruffles and unexpected colour combinations for which the brand is known.

Danish designer Julia Brøgger, who founded her eponymous label in 2016 after stints at JW Anderson, Preen and Erdem, took her inspiration for the capsule from her mother’s wardrobe when she worked as a lawyer in the 1980s and 90s. The result is a power-shouldered cracker of a collection of silky blouses, oversized pink check blazers, double-breasted tailored suits in clashing red and pink and ruched print midi dresses.

In true Brøgger style, the exaggerated puff shoulders, ruching and ruffles are contrasted with clean lines, plisse pleats and tailoring, delivering a brilliant mix of Scandi functionality and British eccentricity.

“I like mixing the sharpness of tailoring with a ruffle or a dress – it’s how I see modern women, mixing the codes and unapologetically so. The gender lines are blurred now in every aspect that it’s the most natural way to dress,” says Julia Brøgger, describing how the clothes play on both feminine and masculine codes, with sharp tailoring and soft silhouettes.

“Brøgger makes the most out of creative tensions – feminine/masculine, London/Copenhagen, eclecticism/sophistication, ruffles/tailoring, I could go on,” says Anna Nyrén, Head of Co-labs, & Other Stories. “It’s endlessly fascinating and inspiring.”
