A nine-year-old boy has been injured in a hit-and-run while he was visiting a shrine to his brother who died in a crash on the same road.

Rudi Till suffered a broken collar bone, broken ribs and head injuries after being knocked off his bike in the Castleton area of Rochdale, Greater Manchester, on 21 September.

His mother, Claire Taylor, said a friend who went to help Rudi told her the driver got out of a grey Seat Leon and was verbally abusive before leaving the scene.

The incident happened as Rudi was returning from visiting a shrine on Manchester Road to his older brother, Kavana Taylor, 21, who died in a car crash in 2018.

Rudi was taken to hospital in an ambulance and is now recovering at home.

Kavana died on 1 April 2018 – Easter Sunday – after the BMW 3 Series he was driving crashed into a Volkswagen Polo.

An inquest into his death heard he was three-and-a-half times the drink-driving limit and had traces of cocaine in his system when he crashed at 76mph in a 30mph zone.

His family and friends made a shrine in his memory near the spot where he died.

"He's autistic, so the emotional side of it is harder to deal with than the physical side of it,” she said.

"He couldn't get his head around it, it's heartbreaking.
