Boohoo under fire for labelling size 8 clothing as 'large'

Online retailer Boohoo has come under fire on social media for labelling size 8 clothing as ‘large’ on its website.

A customer who goes by the Twitter username, @kaatiecasidy, was first to call out the brand after discovering a size 8 pair of trousers listed as ‘L’ in the product description.

According to Boohoo’s sizing, a medium is a size 6 and a small comes in at size 4.

Outraged, the disappointed shopper took a screenshot of the Boohoo model’s cargo trousers and shared the image via Twitter with the caption: “I beg your pardon Boohoo. Since when was a size eight a large… sort it out”.

Fellow shoppers soon took to Twitter to also criticise the retailer.

One customer explained that she is usually a size 12 on the high street but a Boohoo size large didn’t fit her and according to the online store, she needed to buy a size 16-18.

Meanwhile, another frustrated customer shared a photograph of herself wearing a size 8-10 skirt from the website which is listed as a large on the clothing site.

“Boohoo, since when did large mean size 8-10?” she tweeted.

Another customer accused the brand of encouraging body confidence issues, as they wrote: “So Boohoo, when your size ‘Large’ bodysuit doesn’t even do up for my size 10 friend, what the f*** size would I have to get? Just wasted £5.99 delivery on a punch to my self-esteem.”

But it’s not the first high street store to come under fire for its sizing.

Last year, H&M finally pledged to make its UK sizes bigger after years of customer complaints.

The Swedish chain was heavily criticised by shoppers for its inconsistent size guide with the store wrongly labelling a UK size 10 as an 8.

Boohoo has yet to comment on the recent sizing controversy.
