Bombay Sapphire just launched a new Premier Cru Mercian Lemon Gin, celebrating the region of Murcia in Spain. The brand has worked closely with the local farmers and suppliers for decades, and this new launch celebrates that rich relationship.
The elegant flavour of Murcian Fino lemon takes centre stage, complemented by mandarins and sweet Navel oranges for a bittersweet yet balanced taste. And the description of the process is mouthwatering; "Produced from a single late harvest, these perfectly ripened Murcian Fino lemons are matured in the Mediterranean sun and left to ripen in the winter months. They are hand-picked, and hand peeled when they are ripest to ensure the most intense citrus aromas and flavours are harnessed."
The premium gin is a higher 47%ABV alcohol content and has a very reasonable RRP of £30. There are no artificial flavourings and 100% of the botanicals used are on track to being certified sustainable in 2021
Bombay's Master of Botanicals, Ivano Tonutti, said in the press release: “I am delighted to showcase the work of our suppliers and farmers in Murcia, many of whom I’ve known personally for over 20 years. Each lemon has been hand-picked at its ripest moment in small quantities during the late Fino harvest season, using skilful techniques passed down from generation to generation.
"Murcian citrus is particularly special due to the exact region where it is grown. Sitting in a basin between mountain and sea, it is the perfect micro-climate for growing citrus that slowly ripens in the winter months for the best tasting fruit and impactful flavour.”
Recommended serve for a G&T is in a glass filled with ice and top with chilled, crisp tonic water, with a simple twist of lemon zest to garnish, elevating the citrus cues within the gin. Or for a French 75 cocktail, combine the gin with fresh lemon juice, sugar and top with Champagne. How fancy.
