Millie Mackintosh's blog: Love the skin you're in

For the past two weeks I've revealed exactly what I've been doing to get my body feeling its very best,  with exercise and healthy eating.

Looking after yourself from the inside is so important, particularly if you want to see changes in your skin. Your skin is your largest organ, so it really shows what we’ve been up to - whether its a big night out, pigging out on junk food, a break up or work stress.
My skin is combination; more oily in the t-zone and normal everywhere else. I tend to get breakouts when I'm stressed and hormonal - like many girls. To combat this, I know it's important to follow a routine everyday and to assess my skins needs, so I use certain products depending on what my skin is craving.

I'm currently using Manuka Doctor products and this is my typical routine...
I cleanse in the morning with the ApiClear foaming cleanser, then use the ApiClear treatment serum and moisturiser. This is a miracle combination for keeping beakouts at bay and it keeps my skin balanced and hydrated.

I follow up with the ApiRefine flawless primer before putting on my make up. I love this, it has a lovely subtle sheen to it which gives a real glow.
In the evening, cleansing the skin is really important. You want to make sure to get rid of make up as well of a build of dirt and pollution that we all suffer from living in big cities!

I like to use the ApiNourish hydrating facial cleanser, this is oil-based so I massage it into my still made up skin and then remove with a Emma Hardy muslin cloth. This helps to give a deep cleanse and gentle exfoliation at the same time and will ensure you get your face is squeaky clean as the micro fibers suck out any stray dirt or make up and leave the skin looking beautifully polished.

I then apply a serum depending on my skin. If it's dry, I use the ApiNourish serum, or if it's congested I use the ApiClear serum. To moisturise, I love the ApiNourish restoring night cream, this refines and replenishes while you sleep and sinks into the skin like butter.
Once or twice a week I like to use a face mask at home. Ideally while soaking in a bath with some Aromatherapy Associates deep relax bath oil and my favorite Diptyque Baies candle.

The Manuka Doctor rejuvenating ApiNourish face mask is a deep penetrating and hydrating face mask that nurtures natural cell regeneration and assists with the renewal of damaged skin cells. This intensive regenerative face mask’s dual action helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. I love using this mask after a night out to help my skin recover.

And for an extra skin boost, I've also been taking Colladeen Visage antioxidant tablets.

On top of my skin care routine, I've been visiting facialist Elizabeth Caroline to get my skin looking the best it can for my big day. Elizabeth's facials are different to any other I've tried; it's a holistic healing approach using a combination of Reiki and Elizabeth's own elemental healing techniques, she studied for 13 years with a buddhist/shamanic healer.
Reiki is an ancient Japanese hands on healing system, where a qualified therapist (therapist's have to be attuned by a Reiki Master) channels what the Japanese refer to as the Life Force Energy or Ki.

This helps bring balance, relaxation and rejuvenation to the client. It isn't widely known, but Reiki is now used in many UK hospitals to help support conventional medicine in treating cancer patients.

With Elizabeth she can 'see' my own personal energy field or aura, which helps her adapt the treatment even more to my needs. the first time I had a treatment from Elizabeth it was the day before my first BAFTAs and I was very anxious.. I left the spa a totally different person!
Elizabeth also uses a machine during my treatments called the A-Lift, it works on the latest nano current technology. It is clinically proven to boost your ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) by up to 500 per cent in just one treatment.

ATP is present in every single cell in the body, it is the second most important macro molecule to DNA. The more ATP you have in your skin cells, the more you body can naturally produce more collagen and elastin. The treatment also helps to refine pores, lift and firm and leave you with the perfect canvas to apply make up so its perfect before a special occasion.
Here are some top tips from facialist Elizabeth Caroline:
* During the summer, look for products that contain hyaluronic acid as this helps lock moisture into the skin and will prevent dehydrated and dry skin.
* Stress is clinically proven to speed up the aging process, so always make sure you take some time out every day, even for just ten minutes to simply rest.  I'm a huge fan of meditation, and I believe everyone can spare just ten minutes of their day to simply sit peacefully and reconnect.
* Sleep is imperative to healthy, glowing skin. At night your body works hard at repairing itself, particularly your skin, so if you have an important event coming up ensure you get as much, uninterrupted sleep as you can.
