Kate Middleton Channels Princess Diana In Red Catherine Walker Coat

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived in Wellington for the first day of their 19-day royal tour of New Zealand and Australia

All eyes were on her as she touched down in New Zealand for the first day of the family’s royal tour.

And Kate Middleton’s style looked very much influenced by the late Diana, Princess of Wales, as she arrived at Wellington airport yesterday.

The Duchess of Cambridge donned a red Catherine Walker coat – a designer favoured by husband Prince William’s late mother.

Kate Middleton made a touching tribute to Diana as she wore a very similar outfit – matching red pillbox hat, black clutch bag and heels.

Catherine’s military-style red buttoned coat was reminiscent of the coat Princess Diana wore as she arrived at Birmingham Airport in 1984.

But we bet Kate Middleton wished she’d had a break from the flash bulbs as she arrived in Wellington.

She narrowly avoided flashing more than she'd bargained for in the blustery weather as she stepped off the plane.

A gust of wind caught the Duchess of Cambridge off guard as she descended the plane steps, carrying eight-month-old Prince George in her arms.

The 32-year-old very nearly flashed her knickers beneath her pillarbox red Catherine Walker coat – but luckily managed to pin it down in the nick of time.

It’s the first time we’ve seen on Kate on her royal tour and she certainly impressed in the fashion stakes – styling her military-style coat with a matching red Gina Foster hat.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, she wore the all-red outfit with a pair of black pointed heels, a glossy blow-dry and natural make-up – still looking the picture of elegance after the 25-hour flight.

Prince William, 31, also looked very dapper in a navy suit with burgundy tie and black brogue shoes – but all eyes were on Prince George as we saw him close-up for the first time since his christening in October last year.

All eyes were on the toddler – who bore a striking resemblance to his father – in his white shorts and cream cardi.

Later on in the day, the Duchess of Cambridge was seen chatting to several Maori warriors in Wellington – although she didn’t seem fazed by the fellow’s bare bottom.

The couple’s ceremonial welcome at Government House in the capital included a show by the Maori Powhiri and a 21 gun salute.
