Blake Lively may have arrived on the arm of Christian Louboutin instead of husband Ryan Reynolds at Monday night's Met Ball, but the Deadpool star was very much there in (fashion) spirit.

For the fashion extravaganza, the 30-year-old actress made a bold entrance in a crimson Versace gown complete with embroidered bodice, bejewelled straps, and an extra-long train, all of which took 600 hours to make by hand.

So, you can forgive us for initially missing Lively's custom-made Judith Leiber rhinestone clutch which included a sweet tribute to her family of four.

The beaded medieval-style family crest featured Lively's initial, and the initials of Reynolds and their two children, James and Ines.

The letters 'B', 'R', 'J' and 'I' thrust out of a huge diamond in the middle like a cross, and the background featured an intricate scroll with their family surname 'Reynolds'.

The Seamless Sacred Heart clutch was also in keeping with the gala's theme of 'Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination'.

Along with the meaningful accessory, the All I See Is You star also wore an eye-catching golden halo-esque headpiece, emerald earrings, and lots of gold.

Lively shared images of her outfit on Instagram, adding the caption: 'I mean c’mon @Versace.

'This gown is bananas. It should've been IN the museum. Thank you for the honour of wearing this incredible creation.'

She also posted a snap with acclaimed cinematographer and Handmaid's Tale director Reed Morano inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and joked: 'Warrior Queen- @reedmorano I will follow you into any battle. Except, maybe if we could change out of our corsets first?...'

Meanwhile, Reynolds was unable to attend the Met Ball because he's been busy promoting Deadpool 2.

Well, at least he bagged a ticket to the event in some form!
